Tshidi Beauty Sekgobela, Chairperson
Tshidi has the following qualifications:
- Bachelor of Accountancy from University of the Witwatersrand
- Certificate in Forensic Accounting and Auditing University of South Africa
Tshidi is currently working for Absa Group Limited, as Vice President in Group Compliance. Prior to this current role at Absa Group Limited, Tshidi was employed by MTN Group where she held senior management roles in MTN Group. Tshidi was MTN Guinea Conakry, MTN South Sudan and MTN Guinea Bissau as a Chief Risk Officer and as well as a Senior Support Manager for Business Risk Management in MTN Group.
Before joining MTN Group, Tshidi was employed by Ernst & Young, South African Revenue Services, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Gauteng Shared Service Centre.
As an assurance and compliance professional, Tshidi has accumulated over 19 years of extensive experience in internal audit, risk management, fraud risk management, compliance and ethics functions.
Melvin Watkins, Group Chief Executive Officer
Melvin Watkins has successfully led numerous business units. With more than 29 years of robust business experience underpinned by a vast portfolio in the ICT and Telecommunications sectors he provides dynamic and sound leadership into the NewGen group.
His tertiary qualifications include a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.
Duane Webber, Group Chief Financial Officer
Duane Webber is a qualified Chartered Accountant. He has +20 years financial and commercial experience, having worked for large, listed multinationals. He uses his extensive experience and knowledge to provide solid financial advice and guidance to business leadership and management. He is effective in leading teams to successfully develop a culture of high performance and focus on bottom-line objectives. He is an extremely meticulous and diligent individual and has extensive experience in business process analysis, risk identification, evaluation, and implementation of mitigation controls.
Additionally, he has developed expertise pertaining to Internal and External Auditing, Enterprise Risk Management, Assurance and Systems and Process Review.
Zelda Watkins, Group Chief Information Officer
Zelda Watkins brings a wealth of professional achievement from her 30 years’ experience in financial management with a wide-spread knowledge of corporate culture from holding various key positions in the financial services, mining and insurance sectors as well as local government.
She has successfully led many large finance teams, seamlessly implemented various ERP systems and focuses on creating excellence by providing financial solutions to effectively execute business objectives. Her leadership and competence provide our group with substantial value.
Tebogo Mogapi, Non-Executive Director
Tebogo Mogapi is an ex – corporate animal, now turned a serial entrepreneur. In the past, he worked for Coca – Cola Export Corporation and South African Breweries as a senior manager. He is past Sales and Distribution Executive for MTN Nigeria, CEO of MTN Swaziland, CEO of MTN Liberia and Executive at MTN Group. Tebogo is the founder of the ‘Forbes – ICT Outlook for Africa’ magazine and consults for some of the leading FMCG and Telco companies in Africa through his boutique consulting company, UniqAxxess. In the past, he has served on the boards of MTN Rwanda, MTN Zambia, MTN Liberia and currently sits on the boards of ICS, Labat Africa Holdings, New Generation Group, Chairman of United Wireless and Executive Chairman of UniqAxxess.
He was recently appointed as Group: Chief Sales and Marketing Officer for New Generation Group and Delphius Commercial and Industrial Technologies.
Lerato Futshane, Non-Executive Director
Lerato Futshane is the managing director of Futshane. He has over 12 years of experience in the financial services industry and business services. He is a CA(SA) and holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits). He served articles at one of the big four international audit firms. His industry exposure includes conducting and leading audits in some of the top banks and financial services companies in South Africa. He also has a background in teaching – he gained this experience through lecturing in the Wits University SAICA accredited programme of Bachelor of Accountancy.
In more recent years he has focused his energy in advising and assisting small to medium business in their efforts to grow their business. He offers professional advice in transactions execution, valuation, due diligence and related work. He also extends his skills into auditing and consulting in the public sector.
He is a member of ABASA and has served the organisation in various positions. He currently serves in the leadership team of the ABASA Business Forum, which he has been instrumental in conceptualising and forming. He has also previously served as the audit committee chairman of Zenzele TDC, an entity of SEDA.
Theo Slater, Non-Executive Director
Theodore Slater was appointed to the New Generation board on 10th July 2020 and is the chairman of the remuneration committee and member of the risk committee. He was an executive director of Midas Group with over 10 years’ service in the Group being a member of the audit and remuneration committees . Theodore currently serves as the CEO of Eros Auto Dealers (Pty) Ltd the Aftermarket Parts and the Automotive Retail division of Font International Traders (Pty) Ltd. He is also an integral member of the executive team providing key leadership, direction and strategy to the wholesale division.
Joseph Samuels, Non-Executive Director
Joseph Samuels holds a BSc (Hons) and an MPhil from the University of the Western Cape (UWC), South Africa. He is a specialist in Educational Policy, Qualifications Frameworks, Standards Setting,Quality Assurance and Adult and Community Education. He worked in a medical laboratory, as a teacher, as a Physiology Lecturer (UWC) and as the Coordinator: Continuing Education Programmes at the Centre for Adult and Continuing Education (CACE) at the UWC for ten years before joining the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). He was the Director for Standards Setting and Development at SAQA before being promoted to Deputy Executive Officer position, which he held for seven years before his next promotion to the CEO position in 2012. He resigned as CEO from SAQA in January 2020 after seven years and eleven months.
Joe has played a pivotal role in developing and implementing the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) in South Africa. Joe believes in building strong, democratic institutions and devoted 22 years of service to contribute to the vision of SAQA as a model statutory body which embodies the values of integrity, honesty, redress and social justice. SAQA achieved 23 consecutive unqualified audit reports, which is a rare feat in the SA context.The pioneers of the NQF and Joe worked tirelessly to implement the NQF vision of a world-class NQF that works for the people in South Africa and its objectives of creating a single, integrated, national qualifications framework, promoting access, portability and international comparability.
Joe served on many international bodies including the SADC Technical Committee for Accreditation and Certification, Lumina Foundation in USA, Unesco Expert Committees on Higher Education and Recognition of Qualifications. He is a signatory to the Groningen Declaration on electronic learner records. He is served on the Boards of SAQA , Council on Higher Education (CHE), Quality Council on Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and Umalusi. He currently serves as the Chairperson of the Education Sector Committee of the South African National Commission of UNESCO and is a member of the Audit and Risk Committee of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme since June 2020.
